Why Not Be Utterly Changed into Fire?

I am Evan. My pen name is E. Robert Pugh. It’s mostly a Search Engine Optimization thing. I am a writer, a roller coaster enthusiast, a die-hard Dodgers fan, and a film nerd. I was born and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, which is a real city about 50 miles east of L.A.

I am a writer.

I don’t know if I need to justify that statement but it feels like this is the site’s entire purpose.

Because I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t published or produced any major works–a short film or two has come to fruition but the likes of Still Time or Life Underwater have yet to be made.

And, anymore, that’s fine even though for so so long it wasn’t.

I call myself a writer because it’s the aspiration I’ve had since I was 9, writing baseball stories. It’s the dream I chased and lost track of when I had a heated affair with film directing. It’s the inspiration I’ve always returned to.

Recently, I wrote Still Time for the podcast What if but Good. By the third draft, it was my most mature screenplay.

It’s my also my last screenplay for awhile. I’ve turned my eye back toward fiction with Somewhere inBetween. I spent a lot of time screenwriting to the point that I had lost all sense of discovery with the format. By the end of 2019, it was well-trodden territory. Now fiction…

I’ve written books before but never known how to completely fix them. Peak-Evan at 18 was Trees in Damascus, now mostly lost and gone to the girders.

I write because, ever since I was 12, it helps me work through my emotional strife borne of bullies and an innate mental instability.

I firmly believe in what I’ve been trying to do.
